This gorgeous backyard was created for a Dix Hills, NY landscape design client that wanted an outdoor living space inspired by the Atlantis resort, a favorite vacation spot. The client had previously installed a pool and worked with an architect on the landscape design, but had questions about the layout of the property. We worked with him to create a custom design plan with a natural, free-flowing aesthetic that incorporated numerous features while accounting for the property’s elevation changes and high amounts of wind.

Objectives

• Create a resort-inspired outdoor living space

• The property receives an enormous amount of wind
• Elevation changes require multiple levels of patio and living spaces
• Organically incorporate existing in-ground pool into a new design

• Fire pit in a sunken area to protect from wind
• Outdoor kitchen with bar seating
• Multi-level patio and pool surround to accommodate the property’s elevation changes
• Strategically placed landscape plantings, including tall shrubbery, to deflect wind
• Natural stone steps leading from the main patio to pool area
• Beautiful, natural-looking waterfall cascading into the pool with separate seating area above
• Trellis over dining and kitchen area for extra shade
